HHWG successfully hosted a five‑day Middle School Physics Camp from July 6 to July 10, 2026

From July 6–10, 2026, Yufei Ye and Arjun Rammohan successfully led a five-day Middle School Physics Summer Camp designed to introduce students to the fundamental concepts of middle school physics.
Each session ran from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM and was followed by an extended Q&A session, allowing instructors to provide individualized support for students who needed additional help. Throughout the week, Yufei also dedicated extra time outside of class to review and provide feedback on homework, answer students’ questions, and ensure each participant fully understood the material.
Day 1 (July 6th): Math review and vectors In Lesson 1, students were informed of the basis of physics as a field. They reviewed math concepts such as slope calculation and area under a curve, as well as trigonometry. They learned about vector direction and magnitude, as well as how to add perpendicular vectors together. The instructor ended the session with challenge problems, and listed helpful things to keep in mind when solving any type of physics problem.
Day 2 (July 7th): Laws of Uniformly Accelerated Motion In Lesson 2, students covered variables used in motion calculations, and equations featuring them. After explaining the meaning and applications of each of the five basic variables of motion, students were tasked with finding a missing variable from known values. After learning how to find one of these variables from others, they used the equations of uniformly accelerated motion to solve these problems on a larger scale. Finally, the instructor went through a handful of practice problems, before ending off the class with an exploration into a connection between physics and math.
Day 3 (July 8th): Force-body diagrams In lesson 3, students learned how to solve products involving forces. They used force-body diagrams to develop a visual model of problems before attempting to solve them. The practice problems used involved adding forces facing different directions together. The instructor ended the class with a challenge problem about higher differentials of change in motion.
Day 4 (July 9th): Work and energy In lesson 4, students learned about different types of energy, and how one type of energy might be transformed into another. Using formulas to calculate conversion rates between energy, students did things like calculating the speed of an object as it falls and calculating the compression of a spring from the speed at which it is hit. They also learned about work, a way of quantifying the amount of change exerted on one object by another. The
instructor finally ended the class with AP-style challenge problems to prepare students for future applications of the skills they learned in class today.
Day 5 (July 10th): Momentum and impulse In lesson 5, students learned about conservation of momentum and impulse. By using conservation of momentum, students were able to calculate the speeds of objects before and after an explosion or collision. After doing practice problems on the interactions between colliding objects, the instructor ended off the session with an algebra-based problem showing students the role of mathematics as the backbone physics, before recommending resources for further study into the subject, and showcasing a mural made for this class.
