From June 29 to July 3, 2026, Eric and Xiao successfully led a five‑day Scratch Summer Camp designed to introduce students to foundational programming concepts through hands‑on project creation. Arjun supported the camp each day as a teaching assistant. Sessions began at 3:30 PM and lasted about an hour and a half, followed by an extended Q&A period that provided individualized guidance for students who needed additional help. Throughout the week, Eric and Xiao also dedicated extra hours outside of class to review and correct homework, answer student questions, troubleshoot project issues, and support students in developing their personal Scratch creations

Day 1 — Introduction to Scratch Basics (June 29)

The camp opened with an overview of the Scratch interface and core programming concepts. Students learned how to navigate the workspace, use motion and event blocks, and assemble simple scripts. Xiao demonstrated how block‑based logic works and guided students through creating their first interactive sprite movement. Arjun assisted students who needed additional help with setup and understanding the interface. By the end of Day 1, all students were able to build basic animations and felt comfortable exploring Scratch independently.

Day 2 — Project Coding and Feature Expansion (June 30)

On the second day, instructors continued developing the main project introduced on Day 1. Students learned how to incorporate loops, conditional statements, and basic interactions into their scripts. Eric modeled step‑by‑step coding techniques while Xiao and Arjun circulated to help troubleshoot individual issues. Students made significant progress on the core mechanics of their projects, gaining confidence in applying new blocks and experimenting with different behaviors.

Day 3 — Button Creation & Extended Scratch Exploration (July 1)

Day 3 focused on building functional buttons within the project, teaching students how to trigger actions through clicks and events. Eric demonstrated how to design button sprites, program responses, and connect multiple interactive elements. Students also explored additional Scratch features such as sound effects and costume changes. Arjun and Xiao provided TA support throughout the session.

Day 4 — Level Design and Project Structuring (July 2)

Students learned how to create multiple levels within their Scratch project, including transitions, difficulty adjustments, and scene management. Eric guided the class through designing level layouts and connecting them with event triggers. Xiao and Arjun assisted students in organizing their scripts, managing variables, and ensuring smooth level progression. By the end of the session, most students had completed at least one fully functional level and were preparing to integrate additional features.

Day 5 — Project Completion & Individual Problem Solving (July 3)

On the final day, students completed their projects with instructor support. Xiao and Eric helped them finalize scripts, polish interactions, and resolve remaining bugs. Arjun provided one‑on‑one assistance to students who needed help with logic flow or sprite behavior. The session concluded with students showcasing their completed projects, demonstrating the skills they developed throughout the week. After class, instructors continued offering individualized troubleshooting and feedback to ensure every student successfully finished their game.

Volunteer Hours Each Day:
